Going Beyond the Mine
Today's highly competitive market and shortage of talent, coupled with a maturing work force, makes it tougher than ever to attract and retain a skilled work force around the globe. Increasing retention serves to decrease costs and ensure our operations run efficiently.
How We Engage
As the mining industry demands unique and specialized skills, we will continue to fight for key talent with our competitors. Securing talent to work in more remote locations will also be an increasing challenge. Retention remains high at Newmont in most regions and at the corporate office and is not a primary concern in the fight for talent. We will continue to look for creative ways to attract and retain our talent.
We continually evaluate remuneration packages to ensure they remain competitive in the industry. In addition, we have developed strategies to help us recruit new employees. By offering internships and scholarships, we hope to cultivate the next generation of miners.
2010 Overview
In 2010, our turnover rate averaged 6.8 percent, primarily due to the intense competition for skilled workers.
