Health, Safety and Loss Prevention Policy

This Policy provides the framework for the development of Health, Safety and Loss Prevention (HSLP) Standards, Procedures and Guidance, which will address the control environment, risk assessment, information and communication, control activities and monitoring of Core Business Processes.

This Policy addresses the intentions and principles of Newmont with respect to effectiveness and efficiency, reliability of financial reporting and compliance with laws and regulations to achieve Core Business Activities as follows:
  • Strategic and Action Planning: provide guidance and assistance to Corporate, Regional and Site HSLP strategic and action planning processes that drive continuous improvement.
  • HSLP Management System: manage the HSLP Management System and ensure that all applicable operations are assessed according to the standards established within the program.
  • HSLP Global Team: design, coordinate and direct key global HSLP activities and programs through the Global HSLP Team.
  • Training and Competency Development: establish minimum criteria for key HSLP position descriptions and set minimum leadership requirements. Guidance and support for the application of skill sets and techniques will be provided through training and coaching practices.
  • Technical Advisory Support: Corporate staff will provide technical advisory support for selected internal functional groups and external stakeholders (e.g. peer industries, universities and government agencies).
  • Information Management System: establish and maintain a central Information Management System with global access to Newmont departmental information.

Scope

This Policy applies to all Newmont-managed facilities and employees.

HLSP Policy Statements
  1. Newmont will identify and proactively control health and safety hazards and risks with the potential for loss to people, equipment, process and the work environment.
  2. Newmont will adhere to its Newmont Safety Principles, which includes the demonstration of safety leadership in all our people.
  3. Newmont's HSLP management system will identify, assess and appropriately control HSLP risks.
  4. Newmont will establish measurable objectives that drive the continuous improvements necessary to pursue an injury- and illness-free, healthy work environment.
  5. Newmont will comply with statutory and other applicable requirements.
  6. Newmont will positively reinforce safe behavior in pursuit of superior HSLP performance.
  7. Newmont will be reviewed by internal and external resources to ensure that the HSLP organizational goals and objectives are being achieved.
  8. Newmont will consult employees and stakeholders on concerns, aspirations and values for HSLP during development of projects, operations and closure of all operations.
Newmont will publicly report its HSLP performance.
