Management System Management System
Newmont's policies and management systems in these areas help ensure continuous improvement, a common standard of operating at all of our mines, and a framework to identify and assess risks. One level down from our policies, our management and discipline-specific standards give more detailed guidance to our operations in the areas of health and safety, community relations and the environment.

Newmont's Management System helps to ensure effective management processes are in place at all our operations for health, safety, community and environmental responsibilities. The Management System, which is built around frameworks for continuous improvement very similar to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 and OHSAS 18000 programs, also defines performance standards for environmental and social responsibility, and outlines the minimum acceptable level of performance expected at Newmont's operations.

Our environmental management standards are not only aligned with, but generally exceed the requirements of the ISO 14001.

The health, safety and loss prevention (HSLP) management standards have been reviewed and updated so they align with Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Services (OHSAS) 18001.

In 2007, Newmont moved to assessing its site-based management systems using ISO 14001 for environment and OHSAS 18001 for health and safety. Our progress in these areas is reported under the relevant sections in this report.
