At Newmont, we refer to "Safe Production" as the most effective way to perform a job. It means consistently working with the right tools and equipment, each hour, each shift. It means having the right people, doing the right thing, every time. If a job cannot be done safely, it should not be done at all.
Newmont's objective is to eliminate or reduce to a level as low as reasonably possible any risk that could result in personal injury, illness, property damage, process loss or damage to the environment by developing and implementing the most effective HSLP management system possible.
Our management systems are designed to bring order, prediction and control to mine sites. Through them, all employees have the tools to identify potential risks and hazards before performing a task, thereby preventing injury or loss. Newmont's application of ILO Convention 176 is defined by its participation in the ICMM. Member companies are committed, in principle 5, to seek continual improvement of health and safety performance. By taking all practical and reasonable measures to eliminate workplace fatalities, injuries and diseases, providing training and support, and complying with host-country and international laws and regulations, Newmont upholds the values and intents set forth in the ILO Safety and Health in Mines Convention.
