Global Reporting Initiative
The Global Reporting Initiative's (GRI) vision is that reporting on economic, environmental and social performance by all organizations becomes as routine and comparable as financial reporting. GRI accomplishes this vision by developing, continually improving and building capacity around the use of its Sustainability Reporting Framework. The GRI indicators and supplements are the most widely used framework for reporting. The reporting framework is used by the UN Global Compact and the ICMM.

In this section of the report, we show what GRI G3 indicators have been reported against in the 2007 Sustainability Report. The section is organized to reflect the structure in which the indicators are laid out in the G3.

The Content Index also shows those G3 indicators that correspond to other voluntary initiatives that Newmont participates in and those that require annual reporting. These initiatives include: The United Nations Global Compact, the International Council on Mining & Metals and the Global Sullivan Principles. The list of contents also shows the company's contribution to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Our 2007 Sustainability Report has been written in accordance with the 2006 Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 2006 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines and the GRI Mining and Metals Sector Supplement Pilot Version 1.0. The Report has been assessed by GRI as meeting the requirements for the A+ GRI Application Level. We believe it represents a balanced and reasonable presentation of our organization’s economic, environmental and social performance. This GRI Content Index demonstrates how our Report addresses the GRI Standard Disclosure requirements (Part 2 of the 2006 Guidelines).
