Mining is often viewed with skepticism by communities and governments as having a potentially negative long-term impact on people and the environment. The industry continues to work with its stakeholders to develop programs and processes that provide levels of assurance, or confidence, that the risks associated with mining will be managed responsibly and will create value for host communities and governments. Assurance encompasses a range of programs Newmont uses and initiatives in which we participate to provide our stakeholders, and in particular the communities and governments that host our operations, confidence in our performance and reporting.
In this section, we include an independent
assurance statement for this report,
feedback from stakeholders about our 2005 report,
external assurance initiatives and our internal
assessment process.
